Pattern Types

Diagonal

Classic diagonal pattern at -45° angleBest for: Confidential stamps, draft markers

Grid

Dense regular grid pattern (3×3)Best for: Logo branding, copyright protection

Sparse

Practical Examples

1. Company Branding

Watermark Type: Image
Mode: Repeated
Pattern: Grid
Image: company-logo.svg
Size: 40%
Opacity: 8%
Low opacity (5-10%) keeps watermarks subtle but visible when needed.

2. Confidential Documents

Watermark Type: Text
Mode: Repeated
Pattern: Diagonal
Text: "CONFIDENTIAL"
Font: Roboto Bold
Size: 60pt
Color: #DC2626
Rotation: -45°
Opacity: 12%

3. Draft Versions

Watermark Type: Text
Mode: Single
Text: "DRAFT - v1.2.0"
Font: Inter
Size: 48pt
Color: #6B7280
Rotation:
Opacity: 25%
Watermark Type: Image
Mode: Repeated
Pattern: Sparse
Image: copyright-mark.png
Size: 50%
Opacity: 15%

Best Practices

Keep opacity between 5-15% to ensure watermarks don’t interfere with document content. Your watermark should be visible when looking for it, but not distract from the main content.
Use the same watermark configuration across similar document types for professional consistency. Save your settings as a template.
Keep text watermarks short (1-3 words) for better visual impact. Longer text can become difficult to read at diagonal angles.
Use vector formats (SVG) for logos and high-resolution (300 DPI) raster images for photos. This ensures crisp watermarks at any size.

Watermark in Export

Watermarks are permanently embedded in PDF exports. Review your watermark carefully before exporting final documents.
Your watermark configuration is automatically included when you:
  • 📄 Export to PDF
  • 🖨️ Print documents
  • 🔗 Share via public links
The watermark renders identically in all export formats, ensuring consistent document protection and branding.

Advanced Techniques

Layering Effect

Combine subtle branding with security:
  1. Base Layer: Company logo at 5% opacity (repeated, grid)
  2. Security Layer: “CONFIDENTIAL” at 12% opacity (repeated, diagonal)
Currently VibeDoc supports one watermark at a time. For multiple watermarks, consider creating a composite image in an external editor.

Dynamic Watermarks

For time-sensitive documents:
  • Use date stamps in text watermarks
  • Version numbers for draft tracking
  • Status indicators (DRAFT, FINAL, APPROVED)

Regional Variations

Adjust rotation and pattern based on language:
  • English/Western: -45° diagonal works best
  • Arabic/Hebrew: +45° diagonal for RTL reading
  • Asian Languages: Consider grid pattern for vertical text

Common Issues

Solution: Reduce opacity to 5-10%. Lower opacity maintains visibility while keeping focus on content.
Solution: Increase font size. Small text (below 24pt) can appear pixelated when rotated. Use 48pt or larger for rotated text.
Solution: Upload a higher resolution image. Aim for at least 1000x1000px for repeated patterns.
Solution: Ensure “Print Background” is enabled in your browser settings. VibeDoc automatically includes watermarks in PDF exports.

API Integration
